M. Ferreira

Portugal (1898—1962)

Cubism Constructivism

Ferreira trained as an engraver in Lisbon before moving to Paris in 1919, where exposure to the Cubist circle redirected an early academic practice toward fractured geometry and flattened perspective. Across the following decade, the work absorbed the machine-forms vocabulary of Constructivism without abandoning the darker, more interior tone that set it apart from contemporaries.

The Foundation's holdings span gelatin silver prints, woodcuts, and a small group of collages acquired directly from the artist's estate — together forming one of the more complete surveys of this transitional period between the two movements.
